As development in the greater Boston area and the urban population density grows, residents of historically low-income areas are at increased risk of displacement. Displacement is multi-layered, data – both quantitative and qualitative – is scattered and difficult to track, making it more difficult to recommend an effective policy that allows for neighborhood improvements without the cost burdens. With specific demographic and land use statistics, as well as engaging
media such as audio and video, the Mattapan Mapping project seeks to empower residents with knowledge and tools to advocate for equitable development, and to inform policymakers, scholars, and residents about displacement pressures using an online interactive and user-friendly tool with nuanced data inputs. Please join us in moving forward as a community.
